Jo’s cycle Thailand-Lao-Cambodia

Following major knee surgery in April 2011, I wanted a challenge to help me get back in shape. Together with my friend Sarah Nicholson we created a cycle trip to explore along the Mekong river in Lao.

We flew to Chaing Mai in Thailand along with our bikes and a handful of clothes. On arrival we had to put our bikes together and then the adventure started.

The plan was to see as much of Lao as possible so we traveled on a combination of bike, bus and boat.

We visited the golden triangle, stayed in a tree house on a 50m tree and zipped around on 400m wires, stayed a night with a Cambodian family, learned to be a mahout at an elephant village, saw the rare Irawaddy dolphins, and had many coctails with the sun setting over the Mekong.

We traveled over 3000 km with nearly 1000 of this on the bike.

Here’s some pics from along our journey….
