The fitness centre is changing!!

There is a new look reception area and gym, and there are more circuit classes for members to participate in.

The morning cardio sessions with Jo are proving very popular….so popular that it is now being piloted as a boot camp which will be marketed for members and non members to commence in October.
Simon Wigdhal lost a Stone during August as a result of the classes…how amazing is that!!

These sessions are serious fat burning cardio sessions every Mon, Weds and Friday mornings from 8.15am to 9.15 am and starting  Tues 13th September will be Tues and Thurs evenings at 7.45pm. See ‘Four Week Boot Camp

Jo has also been training YORK THUNDER NETBALL team twice a week. The sessions have been a mixture of all the major power moves, plyometrics, core strengthening, speed and endurance work.

They have been boxing  and sprinting in the arcade, power lunging in reception and  jumping over benches in the free weights area.
The ladies have made awesome gains to their fitness and it will be interesting to watch their progress throughout  the season.
If anyone wants to come and support the team a fixture list is on the notice board in the fitness centre. The ladies add character, fun, laughter and loads of energy to the general  gym atmosphere.

Jo is now on the mend from her double knee replacement in April but has brought in a Personal trainer and friend Nigel Davies to help with her recovery .
Nigel, before losing his eye sight was the fitness manager at Bannatynes. He is a very positive and inspirational guy and his presence will make a huge difference to the club.  He is going to be around a lot so make sure you have a chat with him if you can.

York Thunder – Netball

York Thunder has been an established netball team in the West Yorkshire and Regional leagues over recent seasons. A development opportunity came along for Haxby 1st team as the current NYNAL champions to move away from our previous club to take the reins of York Thunder.

York Thunder 1

The team  players have remained the same formidable group, all with experience of playing club, county and  regional standard netball.  Gemma Gibson captain has also played in the super league and at an International standard.

As a unit the players have benefitted from playing together for more than 10 years. This team cohesion has surely been one of the contributing factors to past successes.  A continuing drive from the group has been to improve fitness as well as skills. It is for this reason we have teamed up with the expert coaching from Jo Holmes at Samson and Delilahs gym Haxby.
Here strength, speed, endurance and stamina are being developed for the up and coming season starting Sept 2011.

The inclusive and encouraging support in the gym has meant all the players are comfortable trying new things and getting fit. The team has been training in the gym on Tues and Thurs evenings so check them out.
